HB117: Reaching Out To The Education Committee

Hey, change-makers! The HB117 bill is on it’s way to becoming law! But, before that can happen, we need to reach out and educate our committee members and let them know why this bill is important!

If you don’t know about HB117 yet, here’s the deets:

  • This bill is requiring all public school governing authorities to provide free menstrual products for students in grades 5-12 in Louisiana.

  • Nearly 1 in 4 girls are affected by period poverty and have missed class due to lack of access to period supplies.

  • Worrying or being insecure about the lack of period products leads young menstruators to do worse in school and can have detrimental impacts on their education.

Now, you know the low down on HB117! For information, you can check out our blog post with more details on the bill and keep up with our Insta, where we’ll be posting updates on the bill and how to rally, educate and mobilize for HB117!

Right now, we are rallying together to tell our stories and let our voices be heard in support of HB117. As women, we are obligated to look out for and fight for each other. We are better together!

We’ve made it really easy for you to be a part of this movement for Louisiana! HB117 is headed to the education committee for a vote, so we've listed the representatives in your city and how to contact them! In the graph, their emails are provided, but you can also call, fax, or mail them. You can even talk to them in person at the Capitol by testifying during committee meetings.

We encourage you to contact your state rep to let them know why YOU support HB117! At the end of the day, period care is healthcare and everyone deserves equity, period.
