International Women’s Day: How To Celebrate!

International Women’s Day is a month-long celebration highlighting all women, their accomplishments and their struggles. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories” meaning women who have come before us and have paved the path for women everywhere through media like television, radio and movies.

Power Pump Girls, Inc. is adamant about lifting up women and their voices. Our organization celebrates women year-round by sharing women’s stories via our online community and gathering in person to open a dialogue about our needs. We facilitate conversation and connection among women in honor of the many female ambassadors who blazed the path before us to give voice to and embrace our womanhood.

Becoming a part of the PPG community means becoming a supporter of women everywhere. Your support allows us to care for other women by utilizing our values of striving to achieve period equity, women's rights, education, civic engagement, and racial equity. The impact of these values on the female community is crucial to encouraging women to use their voices.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate International Women’s Day!

  • Appreciate the women in your life.

Your favorite women deserve to be celebrated! Share the women in your life through your socials via Instagram or Twitter to shout them out and show them a little appreciation. You can tell us about your favorite women in the comments or by tagging our socials in your post. The photo booth at Juban’s is the perfect place to take some cute pics with your girlfriends to post! Call up your friends, mom, grandma or any women that have influenced your life and remind them how important they are to you!

  • Attend events.

There are some events going on in Baton Rouge this March for women of many varieties. Some to be on the lookout for are the Dear Black Women and Girls Festival where women can hone back into themselves through health and wellness and a feminist Ellemnop art exhibit that can be viewed virtually or in-person through April 7th. You can also join us on our Pedal Pub, an interactive bike tour with drinks and facts about PPG/period equity! More details to come :)

  • Explore the history behind women’s rights.

Take some time to watch documentaries about women’s suffrage. Reacquaint yourself with where women came from and where we are going.

  • Support women in media.

The theme of Women’s History Month 2023 is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories”, representing women in active media such as television, radio, and movies. You can support these female stories by watching great movies directed by women such as Little Women, The Farewell and Nomadland. Stream your favorite female artists and find that empowerment!

  • Donate!

Time to make some changes! Funding is a necessity to make things happen, so if you can get involved, organizations around the world are always accepting donations. Some organizations you can donate to right now is the National Organization for Women, Care.org’s Women Empowerment Fund, and the UN Women. And of course, yours truly here at PPG are always accepting and appreciative of donations. :)

Power Pump Girls strive, as a women-owned and operated non-profit, to include all women in the celebration this month, as well as every other month. Let’s come together this March and commemorate the women in our lives!
