Have Fun, Stay Safe: Mardi Gras Edition

Mardi Gras is a time to let your hair down (or keep it in a bun if it’s humid) and have fun! Eat some King Cake, dance until you have blisters, and wear beads, beads, and more beads! But we do not want to forget some basic safety principles that will help us have fun and return home safe!

  1. The Buddy System: do not go anywhere alone (this includes the restroom)

  2. Never leave a beverage unattended

  3. Celebrate Mardi Gras with people you know you can trust

  4. Be aware of your surroundings (stay off of your phone when you are walking)

  5. Try to travel in well lit areas (especially at night)

  6. Keep your phone charged (think about buying a portable charger)

  7. Do not leave items of value in your vehicle

  8. Do not leave your valuables unattended (try to keep valuables with you at all times)

  9. Decide on a place your squad can meet up if you are separated

  10. If you feel comfortable, carry a defense item (ex: mace)

Here are five quick tips that will help you have a stress free Mardi Gras:

  1. Plan what Mardi Gras parades or events you want to go to ahead of time

  2. Pre-plan what you will wear

  3. Bring rain gear because Louisiana weather is always unpredictable!

  4. Make restaurant reservations ahead of time

  5. Bring an extra outfit just in case
