W(o)W - Darian Tarver

Hashtag WCW! This week, we’re so excited to announce Darian Kayce as our female feature. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University and snagged a degree in Visual Arts & Photography in 2015.  Darian is currently o b s e s s e d with the band LANY & Harry Styles and loves watching tv shows. One of her faves (and ours too)… Scandal!!! Darian is several levels of cool, but is still relateable and real. She’s focused and fun, as you can see in the video below. Then read more about her work, goals for the future, & her fave pumps!

Last week, we got the opportunity to chill with Darian at one of our favorite local coffee shops, Magpie. We quickly learned that she is not only passionate about creating cool pictures and traveling, SHE’S GREAT AT IT!  Her rad skills in photography have recently taken her to Prada Marfa (uhhh enough said) & landed her some pretty cool gigs like shooting for Urban Outfitters (definitely a dreamy moment), and being featured in Defend New Orleans, Never Elsewhere, & 225 Magazine. Darian explains that being creative is an outlet for her to express how she feels or what she may be going through. Firstly, can we say how much we adore her sincerity?! ok…now back to the blog.

When asked, how she defines purpose and what purpose meant to her, Darian replied:

“Oh, this is a good one. For a few years I struggled trying to understand what my purpose was. I felt like I was on a search to find out exactly what my purpose was and couldn’t move forward with any big decisions in my life until I figured it out. My biggest mistake was probably putting purpose and career as equals, but then I realized that my purpose should be the same no matter what my career is. I want to always love people well. I want to make every person I encounter feel like they matter. I think it’s pretty cool that my job is taking pictures of people because I get to really make sure they feel important. I hope that my small amount of time focused on them allows them to leave feeling more confident than before. But even without my job, I want to be doing that in my day-to-day life. “

Darian wanted to keep it real with us and you of course on how she faces challenges. She admits that she isn’t one of those “works well under pressure” kind of girls. We actually got a kick out of how she handles pressure, because well…just keep reading.

“I’m for sure the type of person who sits at the computer all day working, realizes I have more work than I can handle, cries a little bit, takes a nap, then comes back and tries to figure everything out. Am I being too honest right now?  But I’ve learned that for me personally when a challenge comes up it’s best for me to take a step back and breathe, clear my head (maybe cry a few tears and eat something too sugary) and then give myself a pep talk and jump back in. If anyone reading this has some suggestions on what to do better, let me know! For real, I’ll take all the help I can get haha.” We can DEFINITELY relate Darian!

She wants all of the dreamers to know, that your ideas matter and the world NEEDS them! Darian says, “It’s going to take a lot of work but one good thing about us women is that we are always down to help each other out. So don’t be afraid to ask for help.”  Retweet. Repost. Like. Love. We couldn’t agree more!

The most rewarding part of being a creative entrepreneur for Darian? “Every small thing is like a celebration to me. I seriously feel so accomplished for something that may not even be a big deal. For example, when I went to the bank and opened a business account I was like YES I’M OFFICIAL but in reality that’s such a boring thing haha. But also, just meeting or exceeding goals I set for myself. Once those goals seemed pretty unrealistic. But then I would get to that point and be like “no way!! I did it.” Is it possible to throw a party for every time you reach a goal? Because that’s always what I want to do haha.”

Looking to the future, Darian has her sights set on ATX and pursuing a career in editorial & fashion photography. If you have yet to see her work, we can personally vouch that this girl is capable of incredible things and will ROCK the fashion industry.

Her fave pair of “pumps” are these adorable chunky-heeled slingbacks that (of course) match her entire aesthetic. “I got these pink heels a few months ago and I LOVE them. Pink is my favorite color (and the color of my branding) so I naturally gravitated to them. I also don’t wear heels too often, because it probably wouldn’t be the most comfortable shoes to shoot in, but when I can dress up and wear these I’m always super excited.” All we have to say is, we may have to borrow those baddies soon….
