"Stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts"
Stress is defined as “pressure or tensions exerted on a material object” or “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.” While everyone experiences and responds to stress differently, it is important to learn WHY stress happens and HOW best to handle stress in your own personal life.
What Is Stress?
In a medical or biological context stress is a physical, mental, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension. Stresses can be external (from the environment, psychological, or social situations) or internal (illness, or from a medical procedure). Stress can initiate the “fight or flight” response, a complex reaction of neurologic and endocrinologic systems.
History of National Stress Awareness Day
Stress Awareness Day was established by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) to help provide information on stress, and strategies on how to address it for both companies and individuals. The organization is focused on helping employers and employees help each other by providing comprehensive guides to establishing a program within their organization, and individuals by looking after their health and well-being on a day to day basis.
How to Celebrate Stress Awareness Day
The best way to celebrate Stress Awareness Day is to take the opportunity to remove the stress from your life for the day. Take the time to examine your life and find out where all the stressors lie, and start looking into taking steps to remove them or find ways to mitigate them. Removing stress from your life can start off as a stressful experience, so it can help to get the assistance from organizations like ISMA to look into strategies and support in how to manage those things in your life that cause stress.
Handling Day-To-Day Stress
We can all relate to having experienced school, relationship, and work-related stress at some point or another. Personally, we like to take on stress by doing on a high-intensity workout or taking a nap. Sometimes, we just close the laptops and turn off the cell phones and indulge in a bubble bath. Our favorite de-stresser is to gather up our girlfriends for a night in – inclusive of yummy food, wine, and desserts (hence, the title of this blog)!
Whatever you choose to do, take the time to take a day off and let yourself have a day of freedom. Stress can be a killer, don’t let it take one more day from your life, act now and start living a stress free life!
Our friend Brenda Nguyen at Art Naturals sent us this top-of-the-line Bluetooth diffuser with 8 essential oils! This diffuser really helped relieve some stress around the house and office. Our new regimen is to turn on some jazz or ambient sounds, throw on a clay mask, and adjust the color setting to fit our mood. As of now, our favorite blend of oils is lavender + peppermint. If you don’t have a diffuser and have no clue about essential oils, you should definitely add the Art Naturals one to your Christmas list!
